Devil Soul

The in-breaking warmth
Blessed rays of morn’
Which gladden the drowsy heart
After the spirit’s frozen darkness

Skin-on-skin,
Warm  beating heart
Rests in matching rhythm
Brief moment scarcely relished

Stretched out hands
Mask shame-eyes
Black pools untouched by
Warm rays and hot rushing blood

Never, never satisfy
Ravenous soul
Ravaging heart
Raging spirit

Never pleased by joyful daybreak
Nor pleased by love’s fond embrace

He will devour each generous grace
And swipe the meek hand of friendship
All the love he is shown

There is a devil in the pew
And his name is Alone

  1. This captures my own fear of being alone wonderfully. There is something left unsaid here which draws us in.
