Today I felt pretty darn smug.
I read this passage in Ephesians:
Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. (Eph 5:4)
I work hard to try and avoid crude jokes. Sometimes I get swept up by laddishness, but on the whole I avoid telling filthy jokes.
I felt smug
Then I read the next verse:
For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. (Eph 6:5)
Then I remembered my crushing struggles with internet pornography, lust and disgraceful impurity.
I wasn’t smug any more.
For I have no inheritance in the kingdom of God.
